Laser removal of breast cysts

A breast cyst is a capsule filled with fluid that forms in the tissues or ducts of the breast. The size of the cyst and its contents are different and depend on the cause, location, and age. The cyst often occurs in a single copy (solitary), but sometimes women are diagnosed with polycystic ovary disease, which affects both sides of the breast. The tumor may develop asymptomatically and be accompanied by hormonal changes. It is a fairly common disease that occurs in every second woman. Breast cysts are not life-threatening but can reduce their quality. One of the modern methods of eliminating this formation is laser ablation, which will be discussed.

Causes of breast cysts

There are a vast number of factors in the occurrence of breast cysts. Cysts are most often found in women after 30-35 years, primarily those who have not given birth, so the main reason should be considered hormonal disorders.

A cyst in the breast can occur when:

  • hereditary predisposition;
  • prolonged stress and overload;
  • long-term use of oral contraceptives;
  • gynecological diseases;
  • diseases of the endocrine system;
  • presence of a history of fibroadenoma or mastopathy;
  • frequent abortions;
  • obese;
  • chest injuries;
  • prolonged exposure to solar UV radiation (tan without a swimsuit in the sun and in the solarium).

Indications for cyst removal surgery:

  • cyst size over 2.5 cm;
  • discomfort, heaviness, burning, and chest pain due to education;
  • infectious process, suspicion of a malignant process.

Laser ablation is a minimally invasive method that reduces the duration of the postoperative period/rehabilitation, the risk of complications. Also, the use of this procedure eliminates the deformation of the breast. Now laser removal of breast cysts is recognized as the most high-tech type of surgical treatment.

Its advantages:

  • maximum non-contact, which minimizes the risk of complications, blood loss, and wound infection;
  • safety (performed under ultrasound control);
  • easily tolerated (performed under local anesthesia);
  • no cosmetic defect (all manipulations are achieved through a tiny incision) and preservation of the natural shape of the breast;
  • the efficiency of the procedure (up to 60 minutes);
  • no hospitalization required;
  • there are no age restrictions.

Preoperative preparation:

Before surgery to remove a breast cyst, each patient must undergo:

  • A breast ultrasound or mammography;
  • blood test for biochemistry and hormones;
  • puncture of a breast cyst;
  • blood test for coagulation.

How is the operation to remove the cyst performed?

In an outpatient setting, under the control of ultrasound, the area around the formation is anesthetized. The surgeon makes a small puncture in the skin over the cyst. Through it, through the tissue, with the help of a puncture needle, a laser conductor that supplies a directed laser beam is fed. Next, the puncture needle is tightened, and the laser LED remains inside the mold. With the help of modern equipment, by selective action, with aspecific power, cut the hearth within healthy tissues under the action of high temperature. The temperature, wavelength of the laser and the frequency of the pulse of the laser surgeon selects individually, determining tactics and setting specific treatment parameters. Only the right combination of these factors allows you to achieve the desired result - without removing part of the gland, without general anesthesia and scarring. The procedure is entirely painless; sometimes, it is possible to feel warmth in the tumor area during the operation. After removing the cyst from the breast, the structure and function of the breast are completely restored.

After removing the cyst in the breast, annual observation by a mammologist is requiredsince cysts associated with hormonal problems are prone to relapse.

The cost of an operation to remove a breast cyst depends on the scope of the examination, the doctor's experience and academic title, and the length of hospital stay. Therefore, the cost of removing a breast cyst is formed strictly individually and depends on the characteristics and desires of the patient.
